Size-dependent bending modulus of fibre composite laminates comprising unidirectional plies

چکیده
Heterogeneous materials can show size-dependent behaviour in which the bending modulus depends on sample size. In fibre composite interaction between and matrix lead to such a size effect. Then effective calculated by rule of mixtures either underestimate or overestimate laminate, depending fibre/matrix material mismatch, microstructural morphology (fibre distribution) laminate thickness. this work, comprising unidirectional plies is considered using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory influence investigated. The each ply used formulate overall laminate. results that number plies, fibres through thickness ply, spacing radius, mismatch properties ply. Our analysis shows accounting for microstructure radius per ply) 10% difference predicted three when there are less than four

Statistical data for the tensile properties of natural fibre composites
This article features a large statistical database on the tensile properties of natural fibre reinforced composite laminates. The data presented here corresponds to a comprehensive experimental testing program of several composite systems including: different material constituents (epoxy and vinyl ester resins; flax, jute and carbon fibres), different fibre configurations (short-fibre mats, uni...
متن کاملSize-dependent Bending of Geometrically Nonlinear of Micro-Laminated Composite Beam based on Modified Couple Stress Theory
In this study, the effect of finite strain on bending of the geometrically nonlinear of micro laminated composite Euler-Bernoulli beam based on Modified Couple Stress Theory (MCST) is studied in thermal environment. The Green-Lagrange strain tensor according to finite strain assumption and the principle of minimum potential energy is applied to obtain governing equation of motion and boundary c...
متن کاملFrictional heating in a unidirectional fibre-reinforced ceramic composite
Holmes and Shuler [1] recently found that significant internal heating occurs during the cyclic loading of fibre-reinforced ceramics. In their investigation, conducted with cross-ply carbon fibre/SiC matrix composites (hereafter referred to as Cf/SiC), it was observed that the extent of internal heating was strongly influenced by the peak fatigue stress and loading frequency. For example, durin...
متن کاملSize-dependent bending modulus of nanotubes induced by the imperfect boundary conditions
The size-dependent bending modulus of nanotubes, which was widely observed in most existing three-point bending experiments [e.g., J. Phys. Chem. B 117, 4618-4625 (2013)], has been tacitly assumed to originate from the shear effect. In this paper, taking boron nitride nanotubes as an example, we directly measured the shear effect by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and found that the shear e...
متن کاملDiameter-dependent bending modulus of individual multiwall boron nitride nanotubes.
The mechanical properties of individual multiwall boron nitride nanotubes (MWBNNTs) synthesized by a growth-vapor-trapping chemical vapor deposition method are investigated by a three-point bending technique via atomic force microscopy. Multiple locations on suspended tubes are probed in order to determine the boundary conditions of the supported tube ends. The bending moduli (EB) calculated fo...
